American Samoa is one of the 2 political divisions of the Samoan Archipeligo. Samoa or Western Samoa is an independent nation and American Samoa is a territory of the united States. The American Samoan community are similar to Samoans from independent Samoa in race, culture and language. They have been part of the traditional Samoan nation which was originally under the leadership of the Tui Manu'a, a royal King who resided in Manu'a which is part of American Samoa. Today American Samoans are part of one of the more affluent communities in the South Pacific. American Samoa has been growing steadily with employment opportunities which have attracted people from all over the Pacific, including those from Tonga, the Phillipines and Korea. The population of American Samoa is around 56,000.
